Cooking With A Dutch Oven

Dutch oven cooking is making a comeback. This staple campfire utensil, perhaps the most valuable tool a camp cook can own, is rich in American pioneer tradition. You can plug in to that heritage by using a Dutch oven to cook with on your next campout. Dutch ovens are also finding their way into the modern cook's kitchen; there is no better tool to use when you want to slow-cook something.

A Dutch oven for outdoor use is made of cast iron (and is therefore quite heavy!), having a smooth bottom, a tight fitting lid and three short legs for raising it above the campfire coals or other heat source. A cast iron Dutch oven is cookware that will truly last a lifetime.

Today, several manufacturers offer Dutch ovens made of aluminum or other materials than cast iron. For my money, though--and for authenticity--I prefer cast iron, especially for outdoor usage.

Before you cook your first meal in a new Dutch oven, you must properly season it. Don't skip this step or you will likely end up ruining the oven; at the very least, your food will not cook as well as it should.

Seasoning involves coating the entire surface of the oven with cooking oil and then baking the oil into the iron. If you have a new oven, it will probably come with manufacturer's instructions for doing this. Some Dutch ovens come preseasoned, but don't assume that this is the case. Once seasoned, whether by the manufacturer or by you, your Dutch Oven may never need to be seasoned again.

Dutch ovens are intended for long, slow cooking--in fact, it's the original slow cooker. A Dutch oven will give a temperature of approximately 300 degrees, with the heat even distributed throughout its interior. You can cook many familiar home-style recipes in this utensil, and it is particularly suited to stews, roasts, soups and other one-pot meals. One of the things that makes it great for camping is that you can start a meal cooking and then go about enjoying the rest of the camping experience without having to constantly peek at how the food is coming. Just give it time.

Recipes for Dutch oven cooking are available on the Web, and entire books of "DO" recipes have been published. The word is getting out: Dutch oven cooking is fun and easy. The Dutch oven has even been proclaim00000818ed the official cookware of Texas, Arkansas and Utah. But you don't have to live in one of those states to make this versatile utensil a part of your cooking repertoire. Why not plan to take one along on your next outdoor adventure?

Your Cooking Common Questions Answered

As a hobby, cooking has exploded in popularity thanks to such networks as Food Network providing hours upon hours of cooking shows. Cooking is something found worldwide in every culture.

Careers based in the culinary arts are found in every city and town across the United States. The love of food has brought us together as something we all share in common.

What is an appropriate age to begin teaching children how to cook?

As soon as a child can learn simple commands, safety rules and understands how to grasp utensils, they can learn to cook. Experts agree that children should be no younger than nine when handling sharp utensils and should ALWAYS have adult supervision. Accidents can happen very quickly in the kitchen.

It has been proven time and time again that children learn through imitation. Buy your child a play cooking set. Let them "pretend" too cook their favorite dishes on using plastic play sets and a play stove. Before long they will develop a love that is similar to your own.

Are there certain ingredients that I should always keep on hand?

The standard staples of the kitchen vary according to what the chef cooks. The basic staples are; flour, sugar, salt, pepper, butter (or margarine), oil, eggs and milk.

The more experienced chef might keep a wider variety of spices and ingredients on hand at all times. If you are a beginner, buy what you need as you come across recipes. This will save you time and money.

What are some cooking classes I can take?

There are a wide variety of cooking classes available. Many communities offer cooking classes especially for beginners. There are also cake decorating, candy making and ethnic cooking classes available. If you do not know how to whip something together for dinner, chances are high that there is a cooking class that can teach it.

Where can I take cooking classes?

Great question! Many communities and universities that offer adult continuing education cooking 000007E8classes for the novice or amateur chef and there are also classes hosted on the internet.

If you are considering a career as a chef, there are many world renowned culinary arts academies that can teach you everything you need to know. The only problem might be lack of experience and the high cost of tuition to one of these prestigious academies.

There are alternatives to the higher priced classes and that is a culinary arts course at a local community college.

What is the best type of cookbook to buy if I'm a beginner cook?

The best type of cookbook for a beginner is one that has a front section devoted entirely too explaining different cooking terms, measurement conversions and adequate substitutions.

The recipes should be simple to prepare but not boring. A great tip when buying a beginner's cookbook is to find one that has a sturdy cover, good binding such as the type found in a three-ring binder, and pages that are not easily stained. Betty Crocker has an excellent cookbook that works well for beginners.

Microwave Cooking

Microwaves have become an essential part of everybody's life. Microwave cooking is a safe and convenient method of food preparation. A successful microwave cooking depends on understanding the limitations and benefits of this method of cooking.

Preservation of nutrients:

Microwave is the most efficient way of cooking while retaining minerals and other water soluble vitamins like thiamin and vitamin C present inside the foods from leaching out into the water.

Less oil, less water:

Cooking using a microwave requires very less oil and water. Microwaves are small electromagnetic radiations that are colorless, odorless and tasteless. These waves cause the water or fat molecules to vibrate at a higher frequency resulting in generation of heat. This heat is used for the purpose of cooking. A microwave oven operates on this basic principle.

Shorter cooking time:

Microwaves travel at a speed of light and are high frequency radiations that can penetrate through any surface including glass, paper, wood, bone-china and plastic. As a result, these waves can effectively generate heat within a short period of time. Hence, microwave cooking is really shorter than conventional cooking.

Preservation of flavor and color in food:

Another advantage of microwave cooking is that it is the best way to preserve and enhance the natural flavors and colors in food. This is because the entire energy dissipated by microwaves is used to cook the food rather than wasting on heating up containers. Microwave cooking is ideal for defrosting food items such as meat, poultry and vegetables. This also makes microwave cooking more energy efficient.

Food cooked inside a microwave oven does not present any sort of radiation risk. This is because; microwaves cease to exist as soon as the power is turned off. Since these radiations are non-ionizing, they are not even capable of changing the basic structure of any molecule to a great extent.

Chess Board Games

Chess is one of the oldest board games around, and it is definitely the most popular and competitive one. It is a relatively simple, yet sophisticated form of entertainment that offers hours of enjoyment involving strategic movements between two players. One player ultimately outwits the other and is crowned champion.

It is believed that Chess originated from Persia, however there is no actual proof that this is actually true. Chess was also believed to be played many centuries ago in Persia, India and China. Later, Arabs who invaded Persia learned to play chess, and when they invaded Spain, the game quickly became known in Europe as well. Today, chess is known all over the world with many chess clubs and organizations that hold competitions and other chess related activities. Chess is so competitive that it has already become a globally recognized sport. Not only is chess a sport, but it is also an Olympic game. There are many famous chess players who are recognized all over the world, including the most famous and successful chess player of all times -- Garry Kasparov. Kasparov dominated the global chess scene for many years, before announcing his retirement on March 10, 2005.

If you love a great challenge and feel the need to empower your decision-making skills and strategic abilities, chess is definitely a game to play. In fact, the competition is so stiff that recognition is something very hard to achieve in chess. Can you be the exception to the rule? Give chess a try!

HDTV Ready LCD

First it was CTR, then big colored TV, and then it came the flat panel that runs with propaganda that goes like "is it art or a television..." Now they are telling us that this is not enough, that we have to lose the antennas and go for what they are calling the HDTV ready LCD so as to have a high definition.

Well-linked studies are showing that it is just about to become an essential due to its good resolution and that it is the unbeatable in the market at present. Those who are into entertainment and can't stay with one channel must definitely drop the basic cables. The reason being that the HDTV ready LCD offers more than one channel and has a high definition. We keep having the saying of bigger and better that it is even difficult to figure out what we really want is it the high definition TV or the standard satellite TV or the latest special cable with hundreds of channels of which we don't have time for.

Subsequently HDTV ready LCD is useful for our television in itself. This is because it will have a longer durability than the ctr system that one might be having and it will also fabricate better images. You do not also need to worry about electricity being greatly high for it also consumes less power than the standard cathode ray tube.

My brother has the big kind of TV which he claims that uses less power since it was manufactured long ago and has no other features to guzzle power, he claims that advanced televisions use more power due to their advancement and features. I explained to him that advancement of technology doesn't only deal with features but also in conserving of resources such as power and he realized it.

720p Vs 1080i HDTV

Is 720p vs 1080i worth being concerned about? Yes and no. If you're a consumer looking for a new TV, you can happily ignore the 720p vs 1080i debate because every TV which is described as HDTV or HDTV Ready is required to support both formats.

NOTE: You should be aware though that lots of TVs which support 1080i have fewer
than 1080 lines and so scale the 1080 signal down. That's not a huge issue as even
scaled down 1080i is far ahead of a regular NTSC signal. It is worth bearing in mind
that more expensive HDTVs tend to have better scalers than cheaper ones, and this
may be an issue.

However, for broadcasters it's a live issue. Should they broadcast 1080 lines of
interlaced video or 720 lines of progressive scan? They could just broadcast two
signals, one in each format, but that would use up a huge chunk of bandwidth and
be hugely expensive for very little gain.

To answer the question, it's important to understand the difference between 720p
vs 1080i. A 720p signal is made up of 720 horizontal lines. Each frame is displayed
in its entirety on-screen for 1/30th of a second. This is know as progressive scan
(hence the 'p')The quality is like watching 30 photographic images a second on TV.
A 1080i signal comprises 1080 horizontal lines but all the lines are not displayed
on-screen simultaneously. Instead, they are interlaced (hence the 'i'), ie every other
lines is displayed for 1/60th of a second and then the alternate lines are displayed
for 1/60th of a second. So, the frame rate is still 30 frames per second, but each
frame is split into two fields, which your brain then puts together subconsciously.

Most of the time interlacing works fine, but for fast moving images, such as sports
like baseball and hockey it can cause problems which manifest themselves as a
'stepping' effect on-screen. Progressive scan signals don't have this problem and so
are better suited to sports.

ESPN puts it like this: 'Progressive scan technology produces better images for the
fast moving orientation of sports television. Simply put, with 104 mph fastballs in
baseball and 120 mph shots on goal in hockey, the line-by-line basis of progressive
scan technology better captures the inherent fast action of sports. For ESPN,
progressive scan technology makes perfect sense.'

Bottom line? For us, as consumers 720p vs 1080i is not a debate worth worrying
about, so you can relax and focus on all the other criteria on your list when you buy
your next HDTV.

HDTV - Deja Vu All Over Again

This will be a greater leap in the quality of the home entertainment experience than even the change from black-and-white TV to color, or Hi-Fi to Stereo, or AM to FM. HDTV, in addition to picture and sound will also deliver data services, such as electronic program guides or information related to the programs you watch. Local broadcast stations broadcasting in HD will be able to broadcast one extra high quality picture, or several separate camera angles equal to today's pictures. HDTV will offer the opportunity to develop sophisticated services that meet consumer demand for flexibility and convenience.

HD will be presented in a 16:9 format and will allow resolutions up to 1940x1080 plus provide you with twice the amount of picture information both vertically and horizontally. It will not work on regular analog televisions since these sets don't support the interfaces required for HDTV signals.
After February 17th of 2009 local analog TV channels will stop transmitting, everything else connected to your analog TV will continue to work.

DVD

By the time HDTV is wide spread, high-definition movies will be on the shelves, playable on Blu-ray, HD DVD or both, depending on which way the format wars go. When you switch over to HD, you may need to connect your HD set-top box, Blu-ray or HD DVD player to your TV using a HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) cable. Both Blu-ray and HD DVD are compatible with existing standard DVD, so you can play your current discs on a next-gen player, but the two competing formats are not compatible with each other. It's a bit of a laugh if you are old enough to remember the 'Beta-Max VHS Wars', Beta you say?

Technology

What problems are facing the early adopters of this new technology and what caveats remain for it to become mainstream? The people buying HDTV units today are known as "early adopters". They usually buy whatever is the 'Latest & Greatest' especially in the Hi-Tech field. Other consumers will have to be sold on the technology. A huge number of older television sets will instantly become obsolete and when their owners make plans to replace them, newer technology like HDTV as it exists at the time of the mass conversion will be very attractive. You can bet that there will be a market for 'conversion hardware' to enable the use of 'analog' sets with the new HD Broadcast Technology. If you now record off-air local TV shows on your VCR you will not be able to continue doing that after February 17th of 2009 without an upgrade. To continue recording local TV programs you will either have to connect a Digital to Analog TV Converter box to your VCR or purchase a different TV recording device that has a DTV tuner built in. You'll need that to continue to record programs from local TV stations after February 17th of 2009. The advent of Tivo will eventually make the VCR question irrelevant.

While the prices of HDTV sets are dropping, the High Definition equivalents of many of the complimentary technologies that we've come to expect will remain relatively expensive, such as home recording and storage media. The HD DVD and Blu-ray war is another slow down in bringing High Definition technology into the mainstream. In reality the main distinctions between competing HD formats will be virtually unnoticeable unless you are viewing on a screen 55"+ in size.

Antenna

In cities across the nation stations have already begun broadcasting an HDTV signal, receivable with an antenna. In order to receive over-the-air digital and HD signals, you need a tuner and a digital antenna. In order to watch local network affiliates, some satellite customers may have to switch from their dish to an antenna. To receive HDTV via antenna you'll need: An HDTV, HDTV tuner, HDTV antenna. Depending on your location you may need an antenna rotor to point the antenna to multiple broadcast towers.

A major hurdle to overcome with over-the-air HD broadcasts via Antenna is, the technology has to overcome the 'consumers' mis perceptions and long held myths, combined with lack of knowledge about the capabilities of antennas. The solution to the Antenna/Satellite conversion question may have a more long term effect on the consumer response than the seemingly obvious debate in other hardware.
Note: HDTV tuners that come built-into many HDTVs are over-the-air tuners for use with an antenna and cannot be used as your cable HD tuner.

Local Response

It's always a good idea to check with your local TV dealer regarding what HDTV services are available in your area before buying. It would even be a good idea to call your local TV stations and ask for the Chief Engineer to find out the stations' particulars.

The cable industry believes that HDTV will drive DTV sales up and bring prices down to a where more consumers can buy.
I'm looking at a DLP Projector System now; capable of displaying HD and allowing connections for an HDTV Tuner. Perhaps HDTV will be my next acquisition.

How to Avoid the Most Common Mistakes in Video Shooting

The differences between the videos produced by a professional and an amateur videographer are obvious for an audience, but not so obvious when you are behind the camera. With so much on your mind, it is easy to overlook some important aspects while you are shooting and these mistakes may be impossible to fix afterward. Here are some of the most common mistakes that amateurs make during their first video shootings:

1. Poor framing
No one wants to see an actor with the top of his head cut off by the frame, not to mention having the bottom of his chin cut off. It is very important to have balance in your composition. A little more experienced videographers will tend to put everyone in the middle to avoid the mistake mentioned above. This is also wrong because it gets really boring. The secret is to use the rule of thirds and keep the subjects on the lines dividing the frames, the years on the top section and movement on the third section opposite to the direction in which the actor is moving in order to keep space in the front. This ay seem quite simple but you will see it is not really so in practice. However, experience will teach you to do it right.

2. Excessive zooming
Lower-end consumer video cameras don't have too many options, but they all have a zoom function. This is probably the reason why amateurs tend to overuse it. If you look closely to movies and the things you see on TV, you will see that the zoom effect is not really noticeable. Home videos, on the other hand, are full of excessive zooming that weakens the production. Try to get closer with the camera more often and people will continue to pay attention. Also make sure to use a wide shot whenever you can as it provides better picture quality.

3. Backlighting
Another thing amateurs tend to overlook is the way light impacts the appearance of their subjects on screen. This is why we see so many dark faces of people who are in front of a window or the sun. The secret is to keep the most powerful light source in front of the subject. If you are forced to have a light in the back of the actor, increase exposure so that you can blow out the background. It is better to have a clear face with no background than a wonderful background with a dark face.

4. Background noise
Many videographers fail to take into account is the background noise. The camera has embedded omnidirectional microphones which don't capture only what you want, but also the sound of the vehicles on the nearby highway, the children playing outside, the planes above or the wind. In order to have a clear sound, try to clear out all the background noise or as much as you can. It is virtually impossible to remove these noises afterwards.

5. No tripod
Don't fool yourself that you can handle the camera with your own hands, because you can't. A steady, strong tripod is always a better option, especially if you are shooting a long scene. During professional cinema productions, the cinematographer will never hold the camera himself.

If you avoid these five mistakes, the results of your video work will probably be much improved.

Be Smart in the Sun

My friend mentioned that she was going to sun bathe the other day. Do people still do that? Maybe I am just getting older, but I stopped tanning years ago. Don't get me wrong though, I still like to get my vitamin D on. My nickname in my late teens and early twenties was red lobster because I worshipped the sun and spent some time at the tanning salon. During those long, cold winter months I would love to get into a nice warm tanning bed. I have become more cautious of the sun's harmful rays since then, though.

80% of the signs of aging are a direct result of sun exposure in our teens. Sun bathing can make us feel good and look good in the short term. Cumulative effects put us at high risk of cellular damage, early wrinkling, age spots, and skin cancer - melanoma. A sun tan is the body's way of blocking UV rays to prevent further skin damage. That golden tone may look attractive but it is actually the result of injury to the top layer of skin - epidermis.

A sunburn is a 1st degree burn that usually shows up on the skin within a few hours of sun exposure (after a shower). It can last a few days and Advil or aloe can be used as pain relievers. 2nd degree burns damage the deeper layers of skin and nerve endings. This kind of burn is much more painful and takes more time to heal. It will result in swelling, redness, and blistering - don't break the blisters because they are there to protect the skin and provide moisture.

Over time, UV rays damage fibers in the skin called elastin - causing the skin to sag and stretch. Sun may also cause uneven pigmentation and redness from permanent stretching of blood vessels. Freckles are OK - they are usually more prominent after you go in the sun but they are not cancerous. Pregnancy and too much sun with or without protection can result in melasma, which looks like discoloration. Age spots can be treated with bleaching creams, acid peels, and light based treatments. Practice healthy sun protection habits with hats, sunscreen, sun glasses and limiting your time outdoors between the hours of 10 am - 4 pm.

What is the Best Compact Camera?

The advent of small digital compact cameras and phone cameras for that matter means that there are more budding photographers out there than ever. While the quality of phone cameras has come a long way in the past few years they still do not produce as good image quality as you get from a good compact camera.

Many of today's compact cameras can rival their big brothers in the DSLR range for features making them more adaptable to a large variety of shooting conditions. On a nice bright sunny day many of today's compact cameras will produce images that will be almost indistinguishable from a DSLR when they are printed out as large as A4

Amongst the thousands of compact cameras out there more than a few cameras compete for the top rated camera slot. As of September 2008 are Canon Powershot A580/590 or A720, Sony's cybershot N2, Panasonic TZ4/TZ5, and Fuji's F40fd come out in many reviews as being highly recommended or best buy.

Each of these cameras have individual features which make them best in there class in particular categories. For example Fuji's compact camera range has often been great for having low noise while Panasonic have tried to give you a large zoom in a small camera body. If you are looking for a camera that can take pictures in all conditions the Canon is hard to beat even though it does not have the zoom capability of the Panasonic range. Neither will it be as good in low light conditions as the Fuji.

Sony although newer to the digital camera market than some of the other names has a huge depth of experience in the digital video camera market. They very much staked how serious they are about the digital camera Market when they tied up with Konica-Minolta.

So in a nutshell, if you stick with the big camera names you won't go too far wrong in your selection of a suitable compact camera.

Most large camera manufacturers bring out new models every year, usually around the end of the summer months. Hopefully their cameras will have good reviews prior to the Christmas buying period. Often these cameras are updated slightly on the previous model by the inclusion of a few additional features or by squeezing in a few extra mega pixels.

If you are prepared to sacrifice having the latest bells and whistles on your new camera you can often pick up last years model at knock down prices. Good luck and happy shooting!

3D Graphics = 2D Graphics + Third Axis + Many Techniques

Going beyond flatland (2D graphics) is more of a challenge than merely adding another axis. Many techniques are applied together to map the high expectations of mind onto the 2D displays. To render a 3D scene, techniques such as shaping, shading, textures, lighting, reflections, hidden-surface removal, perspective projections are employed.

Shaping is the first step in 3D technology. A 3D shape can be constructed using basic geometry (polygon, simplest being triangle), mathematical modeling (equations), or graphics techniques like lofting, lathing and extrusion where a 2D object is moved over a well-defined path in 3D space. A warping technique, deformation grid, is also used. The result is usually a wire-frame model.

Shading is then used to provide skin to wire-frame model. Flat shading model is the crudest technique that does no smoothing. Gouraud shading, a smooth-shading technique, creates color gradients based on the location of an object's face with respect to a light source. But the technique lacks, sharp highlights and shadow casting. This problem is solved using another smooth-shading technique called Phong shading which is based on how we perceive the colors. It uses ambient, diffuse and specular optical properties of the material of which the 3D object is made up of.

Texturing is next step towards achieving realism of 3D object. While the ray-traced rendering use optical properties of the material, the non ray-traced rendering use mapping i.e. overlaying bitmaps over surfaces of object to create a realistic texture. Texture maps, bump maps and reflections maps are fundamental map types.

Hidden-surface removal algorithms like Z-Buffer algorithm and perspective projections are employed to create the real effect of relative positioning of objects in the 3D world.

3D visualization is different 3D graphics as the former provides interactivity as well. A user can navigate through the virtual world by changing the scene viewpoint or maneuver objects by applying operations like translation, rotation and scaling.

A 3D animation is another buzz which is basically a sequence of frames rendered at rate greater then Perception of Vision (20 frames/second).

The 3D world specified as vertices, after various transformations, is rasterized and display. This process constitutes the graphics pipeline. The graphics pipeline has following stages:

  • World Transformation
  • View Transformation
  • Projection Transformation

How to Share a Digital Photo Album

Photographs become so much more enjoyable when they are shared with friends and family. You will want to share the pictures of your children's achievements, the special events that you've hosted, and any other great time in your life. There are many ways that you can share the contents of your digital album. Consider all of your options and select the one that will be suit your needs, or that will best show off the photographs that you've included.

Sharing Opportunity #1: Password Protected, by Invitation Only

If the photographs that you have loaded into your album could be sensitive in nature, or if you want to protect your family's identity by not floating their pictures randomly around the internet, you may want to share your digital photo album by invitation only, or use a password to protect admittance to the album.

Sharing Opportunity #2: Emailing Links

If you want to send your own links to your digital album, you should be away that people who receive those links may then share them with additional people. If it would be okay for your photos to be seen by a larger group of viewers, emailing links to your digital photo album can be a great way to get the word out that there are new photos to be seen.

Sharing Opportunity #3: Posted to a Blog or Website

If you have your own blog or website, or participate as a user of other blogs or websites, you can post photographs that are linked back to your album. Instead of uploading photos directly to your blog or website, you can have those platforms pull directly from your album. This may allow others to access it directly, however, so ensure that if you link photos back, you are prepared for anyone in cyberspace to view your entire album.

Sharing Opportunity #4: Print Your Own Photos

One great option that various sites offer is the ability to select photos from albums to print. Instead of you printing and sending photos to loved ones around the world, you can let them choose just those photographs that they are interested in buying and they can purchase them on their own. The prices for printing and shipping photos from albums is comparable to the prices offered by retail locations, and twice as convenient because people can order photographs from the comfort of their own homes.

Sharing Opportunity #5: Gifts and Gadgets

In addition to guests to your album being able to select prints to purchase, they can also choose to have a variety of gifts and gadgets printed with their favorite photos, including mugs, calendars, cards and more. By creating a digital photo album and allowing your loved ones to view your favorite shots, you're opening up a whole world of photo printing opportunities for them.

MJ Johnston writes for a variety of websites, including Hoorray, a photo sharing site that offers the quickest and easiest way to create a free online photo album.

How to Take Wedding Photos - Digital Camera Basics

If you want to take great wedding photographs with your digital camera then there are few things that you need to consider. Below we will look at producing great wedding photographs when using a digital camera.

The first element in order to take great wedding photographs is to prepare. If you are being asked to take some photographs at a wedding then start preparing at least 2 months before the big day arrives. Spend time getting to know the bride and groom so you understand what they want and what they need. Some great questions to ask them are as follows:-

1. How many photographers will be there as well as you?

2. What kind of photographs are they looking for you to take for them on their big day? Do they want formal or more casual and candid shots of both themselves and their guests?

3. How many guests are actually attending the wedding and how many are guests of the bride and guests of the groom? Also how many are family members and how many of the guests are just friends of theirs?

4. Where would they like the photographs you take to be shot? Do they want you at the church or the reception or at both locations?

By asking these questions you will be able to gain a better understanding of the bride and grooms requirements for their wedding photographs and in turn you will be able to produce betters shots of the big day. Unfortunately there are many happy couples who have had their big day ruined because the photographer who took their wedding photographs didn't take time to find out what they wanted and needed and just did as he pleased.

The next step is organizing your equipment. This is probably the most critical step of all as you don't want to turn up at such a major event only to find that you haven't got something or that you run out of memory sticks. Below is a list of equipment you will need for any wedding photography shoot.

1. Your digital camera. But if you can afford to bring a back up camera with you just in case.

2. Lenses and Filters. It is important that you include these in your camera case just in case you want to use them.

3. Tripod. Another essential piece of wedding photography equipment as this can be extremely useful when taking indoor shots in poor lighting conditions.

4. Memory Cards. Another essential piece of wedding photography equipment as you don't want to find yourself unable to take any more photographs because you have no memory left on your cards. Remember taking wedding photographs can mean you will end up taking hundreds for the happy couple then to use only a few of them.

Field Hockey

The game of field hockey dates back to 4000 years. It is basically a ball and stick game, and there are historical records of this game in Ireland, Scotland, Egypt, and South America.

A field hockey stick is usually 31 to 38 inches long, and has a round handle. It also has a bent end that is curved on one side and plane on the other. It is used for pushing, dribbling, and striking a ball. A hockey stick is conventionally carved of wood, covered with fiberglass, but contemporary sticks are also made of Kevlar and composite plastics. It is available in three weight categories namely light, medium, and heavy. It is advisable for a player to choose weight and length according to his or her own comfort. Hockey sticks are available for right-handed players, and left-handed players, as they have to rotate a stick hook by 180. Grips of sticks may be made of porous suede, or rubber, and a stick may cost $30 and above, depending on its quality. A hockey ball is made of toughened plastic, and may cost $5 on an average.

Mostly, synthetic nylon is used for making goal-nets that are of size 3.66 meter by 2.1 meter. Nets have galvanized steel rods that can be folded for storage. Goal-frames have prices of about $400, excluding nets.

Field hockey players generally wear hockey jerseys, shorts, and socks, all made of a synthetic substance such as nylon. Their safety gear includes leg, shin, knee and elbow pads, wrist guards, mouth guards, jockstraps, and turf shoes. It is mandatory for a goalkeeper to wear full-body safety gear, including helmet with face net, mouth guard, throat protector, chest protector with elbow pads, wrist guards, leg pads with knee guards, shin guards, and turf shoes. These all things are generally made of plastic, rubber, or fiberglass.

Field hockey is one of the most admired games in the world. Many countries have their own teams that play various matches worldwide.

Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editing program developed and marketed by Adobe Systems Incorporated. The very first version of Adobe Illustrator was developed during 1986, released to public in January 1987, and was only available for the Apple Macintosh. Today, current versions of the program are available for PCs using the Microsoft Windows operating system, and for Apple Macintosh computers, but in the past, older versions of software, were once released (admittedly on a somewhat sporadic basis) for Solaris and some other UNIX operating systems.

From its inception, Adobe Illustrator has been based around the concept of Bzier curves as the main element of documents - in fact degenerate Bzier curves are used to represent lines, and the curves are even used to emulate circles and arcs. Additionally, Adobe Illustrator has incorporated technologies derived from PostScript and Adobe's font technology. However, despite the sophisticated technology behind the product, Adobe Illustrator has always been relatively ease to learn and use, making it accessible and suitable for graphics and design professionals who are not necessarily technical wizards.

Over time, successive versions of Adobe Illustrator have gradually been enhanced with more and more features. For example, Internet-orientated features to support web publishing have been added, as have advanced rasterization and PDF features. Recent versions of Adobe Illustrator have even added capabilities for extrude and revolving shades in 3D, thus allow you to use the program to create simple 3D objects. Additionally, a relatively new feature known as "Live Trace" provides a powerful method of converting bitmap images into vector art ("vectorization").

How Do I Put Music On My PSP?

Sony Playstation Portable or PSP has become very versatile in terms of its applications and functional approach. The initial thought of having a portable game console have paved the road of multi-tasking and multi-function console, it sure has out grown its creativity from creator. The PSP console is more than just a game consoles, it has the capability as a portable video & movie player, web browser, personal organizer, music player and more.

I'm going to share with you how do I put music on my PSP and making it my universal digital walkman. It is a very simple procedure to put any of your favorite music into PSP. Before we begin discussing how to download or transfer music on to the PSP, we must understand that PSP do not accept all forms or formats of music file. Depending on the version of firmware your PSP is loaded. Early version of PSP firmware can only playback mp3 music format and it does not support playback of WMA and WMV audio files, making it less appreciable. However much later, firmware of PSP is able to playback WMA and WMV audio files. To do that on any early version, the PSP firmware needs to be upgraded to playback WMA and WMV audio files directly from PSP. And even if your PSP are able to playback WMA and WMV audio files I would not recommend because of its file size compare to mp3 format.

Generally mp3 music or audio file format takes up far less storage space compare to any audio or music file format. To convert any audio file format is relatively a simple task as lots of mp3 file format converter programs are already available from the internet. You can find huge list of mp3 format converter from the search engine and most of them are capable of converting any music or audio file format to mp3. The procedure provided by most mp3 file format converter program are most dummy proofed. Hardly anyone will find any difficulties in using these programs.

Once you have converted you favorite music files to mp3 then you are ready to put music on PSP. To put music on PSP you first need to connect your PSP to your PC by using the USB cable. Next, you press "Home" button and follow by scroll to "Setting" using the left-right buttons. And finally you search for "USB Connection" and press the "X" button to enter your selection.

On your PC, it will begin to show a removable drive has been detected and mounted on "My Computer" window. Click and open the new removable drive and a folder named "PSP" will appear within the drive. Open the "PSP" folder and you should find "Music" folder from within it. If the "Music" folder does not exist, manually create it yourself.

Now you can begin to put your favorite music on PSP console. Simply drag and drop if you like or copy & paste your favorite music and store in this folder of the memory stick. Once you are finished with transferring or putting your music file onto PSP, press the "O" button on your Sony PSP console to exit your PSP from the USB connection. Unplug your Sony PSP from the USB connection and you can begin playback your mp3 music files and simply enjoy your music anywhere and anytime you want.

Certified by Linux

The world of Information Technology is changing dramatically. Ten years ago, people with a degree from high school and a technical trade school were eligible for what is now one of the hottest and in-demand careers in the country. Today, the competitive field of IT requires certifications, extensive training, and a bare minimum of an associates degree with a preference for a bachelors degree in Information technology. Linux certification is one of those necessary validations of education in the attempt to land a good job in the world of IT.

Linux certification puts the IT professional ahead of the game. With Windows being the dominant system, the vast majority of IT professionals have maintained a steady focus on Windows oriented certifications. However, the Linux system is slowly increasing in popularity, which means that there will soon be a demand for Linux certified professionals and not enough IT professionals who can make the grade. Windows was designed to allow just about anyone to use the computer and to get from point A to point B without a lot of processing. Its user friendly capabilities have made Windows the primary system for most home users.

The capabilities of the Linux systems are more complex, but can do more without mass confusion, making it increasingly popular among those who wish to set up systems with phenomenal professional or personal capabilities. Those with Linux certifications will be the ones who are called as many professional settings are transitioning to include both systems.

Linux certification makes the IT professional much more versatile. While a great many potential employers may not recognize what a Linux certification really is, they will recognize the versatility that comes with it. Employers who are seeking IT support do not always understand everything they want their IT professional to do. In some rare but drastic cases, a personable individual with a long list of certifications is the one who lands the job simply because they look more professional and capable on paper and they seem to have a personality that others can get along with.

While some companies put a little more into their hiring process, without an Information Technology specialist on hand to explain everything, many companies feel as though they are shooting in the dark hoping to come up with a serious job candidate.

Linux and Unix are nearly the same animal, but are two different flavors in a very potent Information rich Technology world. For those who are looking to master all the animals, Linux can broaden the experiences understood by developing their Unix skills.

For the sake of the IT professional, Linux presents a different type of challenge, one that can help the IT graduate push forward and grasp entirely new concepts that arent present in Windows programs or certifications. Some IT professionals just enjoy the Linux system and feel that the certification is worth its salt for the experience of delving into Linux systems. Linux is more challenging, and being able to complete the challenge is more than enough for some newer IT professionals.

For those trying to break into the business, Linux is a must. Newbies will be competing with professionals with less education but more experience. Having a Linux certification is an excellent step to presenting to potential employers with a competitive edge. Given the experience that many of the IT professionals have been able to retain over the last ten years, breaking into the IT world is not easy. Every little edge that can overshadow long term experience is going to place a huge point in the newbies corner.

Malware Bell - Conduct a Malware Bell Removal in Minutes

Are you getting fake pop up warnings that proclaim your computer has been infected with spyware? Has your browser been hijacked, redirecting searches and changing your homepage? Both of these are symptoms of a Malware Bell infection. If you have had a run in with this evil program I recommend conducting a Malware Bell removal procedure immediately!

Malware Bell is a rogue anti spyware program from the infamous family of spyware infectors known as IE Defender. This form of spyware/malware has been around for a quite a few years now and unfortunately IE Defender continually updates the program (the latest version is Malware Bell 3.2)spreading each new carnation virally through the internet.

The most common method of infection is through a codec. A codec is a video compressing program that encodes a data stream so it can play in your media player. If you either downloaded or tried to play a video and got an error that read "Video ActiveX Object Error: Your browser cannot display the video file" then you have been the victim of a Malware Bell attack.

The error message provides a link to download the program and then sure enough your computer is now infected with a deadly form of spyware and malware. This malicious program can harm you in numerous ways:

Can extort money from the infected PC owner

Steals private and confidential information

Records browsing habits

Can potentially corrupt your registry and destroy your computer.

How to remove Malware Bell can either be a question answered easily or prove to be quite difficult. A manual Malware Bell removal requires an intimate knowledge of system and registry processes. This malware attaches itself throughout your hard drive and requires you to remove approximately thirty different files.

But fortunately there is an easier method to fix Malware Bell. You can simply download a spyware removal program that can automatically fix your spyware problems few easy clicks. Removing Malware Bell has never been so easy!

Want to squash those annoying pop up ads and get your PC running like new? Come get your free scan and remove Malware Bell today!

Common Misconceptions About Forensic Animations

There seems to be many preconceived notions about forensic animations and their overall use in litigation. Many times, lawyers or accident reconstructionists will say that "An animation can show whatever the animator wants" or "Animations are difficult to admit in a court of law". However, to a forensic animator, this is also like saying, that your accountant can "fix your books". In reality, it is far from the truth.

Misconception #1 - "An animation can show whatever the animator wants"
Perhaps it is the fact that so much of what we see on television and in films is altered with lifelike special effects that we tend to associate anything with 3D visualization with more than a hint of skepticism. Ironically, much of the same software used to animate films such as "Spiderman" or "Lord of the rings" is also less known to be used in scientific visualization, research and forensic animations. People may associate the fact that an experienced special effects animator is capable of creating surreal, yet realistic looking effects. Therefore, it must not be accurate.

The greatest difference between a forensic animation and just any other type of animation is the "forensic" part. This implies that there is a large effort in understanding the details of what is being animated and that there is a large emphasis ensuring a high level of accuracy. An animator can spend more than 70% of his time on activities related to the verification of data and ensuring accuracy in the animation.

An experienced and qualified forensic animator would tell you that a large effort goes into building and checking each step of the animation process to the correct and accurate dimensions. In fact, very little is left to the imagination since most recreations are based on accurate data typically provided by the expert witness. A simple example is the terrain data of a particular scene. This can be obtained by means of a total station along with the positions of important features such as signs, traffic lights, debris or tire marks on the roadway.

Even the animation and motion of objects in a 3D recreation is typically based on information or data provided by the expert witness. This data is often obtained through careful calculations or through the use of simulation software. In the case of simulation software, the data can be directly converted or imported directly into the 3D animation software, leaving little room for error.
There may be cases where the forensic animator is provided with less than ideal information, however, even in these rare instances, an experienced forensic animator will have enough knowledge to ensure that the basic rules of geometry and physics (i.e. motion) are applied and adhered to.

Misconception #2 - "Animations are difficult to admit in a court of law"
Somewhere along the way, there have been animations which were so poorly constructed or erroneous they simply could not have been allowed in court. It would seem that these cases tend to stick in the minds of litigators and cause reluctance for future use of what is a perfectly acceptable and effective use of technology.

Normally, it is an inexperienced animator or lawyer which does not follow some of the basic rules of demonstrative evidence.
Some key points to consider when considering a forensic animation are:

1. The animation needs to support the testimony of the expert witness and should be considered an extension of the witness' report. The expert witness should be directly involved in authenticating and reviewing the animation.

2. Disclose the animation well in advance of the trial date. Evidence needs to be disclosed in a timely manner and the opponent requires time to cross examine the evidence.

3. The animation fairly and accurately conveys the data or matter that it purports to convey or depict. The animation should not be prejudicial in that it outweighs the probative value.

4. The animation should be relevant.

5. The forensic animator should be prepared to testify that the works created are based on sound technology, process and algorithms such that the final works are a reflection of the expert witness' opinion.

There are, of course, many other factors to consider which may be case dependant. Further materials and references are available for review including a paper entitled "The Admissibility of Demonstrative Evidence in Jury Trials:" Written by Barbara Legate of Legate and Associates and available at the AI2 forums (www.ai2-3d.com/Forums).

Today, most forensic animations are admitted into court since there are greater considerations and groundwork taken into account to ensure the accuracy, validity and quality of the animations. By choosing an experienced forensic animator and by adhering to the rules of demonstrative evidence, the risks associated with inadmissibility are greatly reduced.

Misconception #3 - "Animation and Simulation are the same thing"
There are two distinct ways to develop an animation and although the end result may try to achieve the same thing, they are fundamentally different in the means by which they are created.

A simulation is typically the output of a program which is operated by a qualified accident reconstructionist. The program has a set of key behaviours (i.e. mathematical equations) which define the movement of objects when given a set of known parameters. It is up to the accident reconstructionist to define all the input variables and ensure they are accurate. Once this is complete, the program is initiated to calculate all the positions of objects through some specific time.

The simulation software may also output the motion of objects in the form of exportable tabularized data and/or animation. However, most manufacturers of simulation based software programs have not been able to achieve the same level of realism as most animators are able to do with 3D visualization software. There may be a number of reasons to this which deal with further complicating already complex software or that perhaps the time spent on development is in the mathematics behind the simulation software and not primarily in the visualization or presentation of the data.

Another important issue which is common with simulation software is the validity of the data available. The old saying "garbage in, garbage out" is applicable. Since a simulation would typically be used as substantive evidence, it can get difficult to prove something is accurate without having solid data to back the animation up.

Animation
Demonstrative Evidence - illustrates how something works or how something happened based on the testimony of the expert or eye witness. The animator, not the software is responsible for accurately moving and positioning objects over time.
Does not try to prove anything, but just facilitates the account or testimony of a witness.

Simulation
Substantive Evidence - Takes actual dynamics and physics into account. The objects are not animated by "hand", but by software based on calculated inputs or data.
Tries to prove that something may have occurred a certain way.
Visually, an animation is more eye catching and realistic.
Simulations are improving in their presentation, but are still lacking realism.

On the other hand, an animation may be based on an eye witness testimony, calculations of the accident reconstructionist or from data output by a simulation package. All the events of an animation in a typical 3D visualization package are calculated and setup by the animator. Animations are almost always disclosed as demonstrative evidence and they do not try to "prove" anything. They are merely another form of expressing the opinion of the expert witness and are always presented as demonstrative evidence.

Misconception #4 - "We need it yesterday".
There have been many advances in the technology that forensic animators use which has improved the speed and efficiency of their work. Computer processing speeds have grown exponentially and the advances in software have allowed animators to do things which were simply not possible several years ago. There are even tools provided to animators which allow them to write custom scripts for repetitive tasks and specialized functions.
These advances in speed and ability would make one think that the time to complete an animation should also have been greatly reduced; however, this is not the case.

Part of this reason is simply the nature of the animation process. Much work needs to go into the understanding of the case, reading reports, taking measurements and verifying accuracy. This part alone can take a large part of the man-hours to create the animation.
Also, creating the 3D models ("scene assets") necessary to populate the animation is still a time consuming process. There are some advantages when a "library" of standard models is used (i.e. stop signs, light poles, traffic signs), however since each case is different and the specific details need to be reflected in the animation (such as the scene topography or specific damage to the vehicle), time must be spent to customize or create models from scratch.

Technology has effectively brought many more options to the realm of visualization which means that more work is being done in a similar amount of time. If one were to compare the time to produce an animation which was done 15 years ago to the same animation done today, there would be a noticeable decrease in the time to complete. However, the overall quality of presentation would certainly not be as appealing to the eye.
Due to media such as television and film and video games, people have become accustomed to a higher level of realism. The same animation which was used 15 years ago in a court of law, may not be as appealing or credible to an audience today.

It is important to leave as much time as possible to get a high quality animation and to allow time for the opponents to cross examine the animation. On average, a typical animation from a reputable forensic animator requires anywhere from a few weeks to months to complete depending on the availability of information, number of scenarios/views requested, level of realism and complexity of the animation. Unfortunately, there are still no "magic buttons" to do the manual work of a forensic animator.

Misconception #5 - "It's much too expensive"
Perhaps the most important piece of advice is to use a reputable and experienced forensic animator. There are some animation houses which specialize in advertizing or graphics which like to take on forensic work, but without a qualified and experienced forensic animator, there is a higher risk that the entire animation may be inadmissible.
A qualified forensic animator will bring to light all the options available, provide sound advice and set clear objectives up front. Setting clear objectives is possibly one of the most overlooked points. Without knowing the expectations, the goals of the animation are often missed or not well communicated resulting in last minute changes and edits which further increase the cost.

It is important the lawyers and accident reconstructionists understand the animation process and where the amount of man-hours are typically invested. Most forensic animators estimate or charge based on an hourly rate; however there are some which still prefer to quote by the case/project.

The general rule of thumb is that as the level of realism, complexity, number of scenarios and camera views increases, then so does the cost. This is why it is important to understand what is being requested of an animator. For example, changing a camera view slightly has a smaller impact on cost than does adding different animation scenarios with objects in different locations.

By taking a second look at forensic animations and their misconceptions, it is clear that there needs to be some understanding of the animating process by the client. Having an up front and open discussion about the objectives of the animation are imperative to having a positive impact on the case.

Drawing on the experience of a professional forensic animator who can explain the options available to a client and can discuss their associated costs removes the risk of falling short of the goals and ensures animations will be admissible in court.

Big Screen Entertainment Centers

Home entertainment centers, apart from providing storage space for the audiovisual equipment, can serve as the ideal place for a family gathering every evening if you plan your entertainment center carefully.

Apart from the creative satisfaction that you will derive from this activity, you will also be able to give a unique identity that will transform your house into a well cared for home. All this will require some planning on your part.

First of all, plan your space for the PC in the entertainment center. A PC is no longer meant for work alone. You can use it to download songs, videos, and also manage digital data. You will need a few hours of set-up time for connecting it to the entertainment center. This will also include a broadband connection, either a wireless or a wired one.

While buying your entertainment center, you need to keep in mind the size of the TV you possess. There are a large number of styles and sizes available in the market, ranging from 21 inch TVs to full-size home theater systems.

You can now enjoy the benefits of both the TV and PC at the same time. While the PC makes it easier to download music, you can enjoy music, videos, or movies on the big screen backed with surround-sound speakers systems.

Technology Is Absolutely Mind Boggling

Watching television on your computer is not a new concept. I have watched live streaming video for years. But, my jaw hit the floor when I learned that I actually could have the ability, to watch television stations, from countries around the globe.

My in-laws are from the north country of England, they are amazed that the technology exists that allows them to watch shows, from their homeland.

I used to Dream Of Jeannie now Internet television has made my dreams come true. I have always wondered exactly what other countries allow their citizens to view, now I know. It is staggering technology.

I was raised on the Atari 2600, I thought that was as far as technology would rise. But, as new innovations are introduced, technology continues to explode with new incredible products. Usually with the intent to make our lives easier and more enjoyable.

The time has come when we will never miss one of our favorite shows. The digital video recorders that are now standard in most houses revolutionized television viewing in our homes.

Now another step has been taken to improve our lives and our television viewing. You are now given the opportunity to watch television while you tend to your daily activities, with your computer.

You now have no excuses and zero reason to miss your favorite program. Plus, you have the technology available to you; which allows you to watch television stations from all over the world.

Soccer fans are going to love this type technology. Movie buffs will fall in love with the foreign films.

The day has come, no matter where you are or where your at, as long as you have an Internet connection. You have the ability to watch television.

Will this new technology lead to more people staying indoors and not enjoying the great outdoors? Who cares let the tree huggers worry about it. I love television and I am not going to worry a lick if I miss a bike ride or a jog outside. I rather be curled up with my technological chair and my technological computer and watching my 22' Hi Def computer monitor.

Online Desi Games - The Indigenous Delight

We Indians have always been quite keen on everything related to entertainment. Be it cinema, music or games. Our parents spent their leisure time playing cards (rummy being the most popular of all), Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, Carrom and chess.

India is a country where fun at home increases manifold when friends and relatives gather. On a holiday or at the weekends, the whole family rejoices by playing some cool indoor games. A child grows up learning Ludo and Snakes and Ladders. Times have changed now but Indians still crave for captivating games. When PCs gained entry into every Indian home, solitaire and freecell kept every one hooked. With the advent of Internet along with social networking sites and chat messengers, the gaming portals have also gripped the masses.

Considering the huge demand and popularity of online games, the Indian entertainment industry has decided to give them an indigenous touch. The aim is to attract the masses. For that. themes based on Indian day-to-day lifestyle are adopted. You can see busy streets, unpretentious villages or intense traffic serving as a backdrop in these games. Bollywood superstars, politicians, sports persons playing the role of the main protagonists in the games. The gamers can relate to the environment easily. Obviously, it is exciting to make Amitabh Bachchan follow your instructions.

Consequently, the gamers remain glued to the game.
The idea to give the games a desi transformation is highly acclaimed throughout the country. The average count of the online gamers in India is comparable to most of the developed countries where online gaming initially evolved.

Some of the games that wrote their success stories are Babul game (with Amitabh Bachchan playing the lead), Laloo Ki Laadli (quite obviously, Laloo Prasad Yadav shines here), Meter down racing (an auto rickshaw race), Bipasha's Beach blaze (Bipasha sizzles on skates in a beach), Salman Safe Mode (Salman behind the steering on Mumbai streets which is not at all safe) are just few of the online desi games created exclusively for our Indian game lovers. People get immense delight watching and controlling their favourite icons with a few keystrokes.
These days, the automobile brands have made their way into the gaming industry to gain publicity amongst the Indians. Logan from Mahindra has launched itself with a racing game. Same goes for Ford, which displays its models through a very popular game.
The dimensions of indoor gaming have changed a lot. But the fun remains the same. The Indian game lovers have come out of the addiction of the usual games board games and now find their niche in the world of online gaming. Online Indian games are scaling new heights with every new innovation and passing day.

How to Look Your Best at Your Next Photography Shoot

Looking your best during a photo shoot, whether it is an engagement, bridal, wedding, fashion or a high school senior portrait session, is simple. However, it does require some effort. It could require breaking some bad habits and as with doing anything well, it does require practice. Following these steps will give you a great foundation for getting the best results at your next photo shoot.

1. Water - The secret for beautiful skin. Drink plenty of water starting a week in advance of your photo shoot. This will hydrate your skin.

2. Sleeping beauty - Rest well the night before to prevent dark circles or bags under your eyes.

3. The search for inspiration - Look at magazines or online images to spark ideas of what would you like your pictures to look like, and communicate those ideas to your photographer. This will also give ideas for interesting poses.

4. Get to know yourself and your best angles using a mirror - Everybody has a specific angle in which they photograph best. Stand in front of a mirror, move your head slowly up and down, tilt it side to side, and right and left. Look carefully to find the angles where you look your best. Try to practice making different expressions, smiles and poses to notice what looks best.

5. Eat - Eat something light before the photo shoot. You will need your energy.

6. Your nails - Make sure that your nails are neat and well taken care of. Bad nails could ruin a great shot!

7. Hair Removal - Wax, shave or pluck your eyebrows a few days in advance, you do not want irritated skin before your shoot.

8. Don't try new products! - Nothing is worse than trying something new that has a bad result a day or two before a photography session.

9. Avoid Salt - Eating salt can cause water retention.

10. Clothes - Try on outfits beforehand. Choose colors that look good on you and clothes that aren't too tight and pulling or stretching anywhere. Check for any loose buttons or stains.

Preparation is everything when it comes to looking your best at a photography session. If you would like addition tips, check out our blog for more great information. Best of luck to you!

Organizing Your Favorite Board Games

With four children, ages 3-18 we have amassed a large number of board games. Over the years, our list has grown to over 30 board games. I used to be very vigilant about taping the corners of the boxes. That seemed to help reinforce the edges - for a little while! But over time, they always ended up looking terrible. When my children were younger, as soon as they cracked the edge of the box on Christmas morning, there was mama with a Ziplock bag just waiting for all the tiny pieces. That bag was placed into the box and the children were very good about putting all the piece away. But we still had to struggle with that yucky box.

Last year, we went on vacation in the Carolinas and I made the best discovery! The guest house where we were staying had a huge number of board games. However, to my surprise, there were no boxes! They simply stacked the boards together on one shelf and had all the small pieces and instructions in labeled storage bags. This took so little space, that they had about 40 games in less space than 5 or 6 games left in traditional boxes! They looked so neat and orderly too!

When I got home, I immediately set about getting rid of most of the board game boxes and using this same method. I LOVE having all our games fitting on one small shelf, rather than taking up an entire closet!

I shared with my readers awhile back that at Christmas time, we limit the children to three gifts, plus one to share, using the following formula:

Something to Read, Something to Wear, Something to Play, Something to Share, I had lots of folks write and ask about what I meant about "Something to Share."

Well, we try to come up with one gift the entire family can share and enjoy. This may be a "classic" video, an "experience" gift, like zoo passes for the year or museum membership. But in our home, it is generally a board game. Here are our favorite board games that we have found the children (and we!) go back to over and over. Most can be found on Amazon (http://tinyurl.com/6qnovv) for simple Christmas shopping.

Great Christmas Gifts For Children

It seems finding the perfect Christmas gift gets harder every year and buying for children are no exception. The biggest problem with buying for children is their lists can be extensive and costly. So, finding a good present for them will take a little work but can be done if you follow some simple rules.

Video games are probably one of the hottest gifts for children in today's world. There are three different kinds of game systems that you can buy right now. Nintendo makes the Nintendo Wii. Some of the characters that are associated with this game system are Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog. The Xbox360 is made by Microsoft and some of it's most popular games are Halo 3 and Grand Theft Auto.

Sony Play station three is the newest entry from Sony Corporation and have a list of many characters and titles. No matter which game system you have their will be a video game that will cater to whatever your child interests are. This is the main reason video games are very popular gifts.

One item that more people are going back to are traditional gifts. Traditional gifts can consist of Dump trucks, trains, and hot wheel cars. For girls the traditional favorites are still Barbie dolls, jewelry, and games. Traditional gifts are still extremely popular with parents and children.

Electronics is popular across the board and children are no exception. Kids love Mp3 players along with CD players and boom boxes. Electronics is something that continues to be popular with children and it looks like that won't stop anytime soon either.

Gift cards in recent years have really been getting popular. Gift cards let children go out and pick what they want instead of parents or grandparents buying them something they don't want. This solves the problem of what to get children and it let's children get exactly what they want. It's a win-win situation for both.

Build it kits have seen a big resurgence in recent years. Build it kits are where you build a certain item. It could be a leather wallet or a solar cell battery. These kits give kids something to occupy their time, and they learn how to do something. Kids love these as once they complete the kit they feel very important as they have accomplished something. It gives them confidence and they are most likely to try something else later down the road. Parents love that a lot.

Gifts for children vary greatly depending on what kind of hobbies your children have. The more you know about your children the better idea you will have on what they will like. Every year their will always be the hot toys that children want. For the most part if you stay with the staples that children love than you can't ever go wrong. Over time children will change their values and ideals, but for the most part it really does stay the same. As long as you don't deviate from that you should do fine when it comes to Christmas gifts.

Does The Playstation 3 Have Overheating Problems?

For Sony things weren't looking so great going back to the Tokyo Games Show in September 2006. Sony was unveiling their eagerly anticipated new PlayStation 3 games system, and the demo units were spluttering and dying left and right. This was essentially bad news considering the recent recall of Sony's lithium ion batteries.

The problem was simply that the Playstation 3 console was overheating. A representative from an equities company was the first to report it and soon after, everybody in gaming industry was talking about the new PS3' overheating problem.

Actually, there were several reasons why the consoles were taking to overheating, that did not really have anything to do with the design of the machines themselves. To start with, the Tokyo Game Show was extremely hot. Anyone that's visited Japan in September will know that it's a brutal time of the year, and the venue was lacking air-conditioning. There were 200 PlayStation 3 all in action close to one another, which is probably poor planning on the part of the organizers. To make things worse, all the consoles were sealed in cases to prevent anybody from peeking into the machine. This means that unfortunately there was no way that the exhaust fans, which were reportedly operating just fine, could get rid of all that heat.

It seems obvious that with 200 consoles in sealed cases in sweltering conditions that they would overheat. Still, it looked very bad. Representatives from Sony were all over the place during October stating that there weren't any overheating issues and many gamers were sceptical.

To make things worse for Sony was the recent recall of the lithium ion batteries, which are mostly used within there Vaio Laptops. The batteries were overheating and bursting into flames! This resulted in a massive recall of nearly seven million batteries being returned, and this was a massive financial blow to Sony. Critics commented that Sony was actually aware of this problem but didn't act quickly enough, and if they had, the recall may have been avoided. Taking all this into account, it did effect Sony's reputation pretty badly, combined with the overheating demos at the Tokyo Game Show looked much worse. With batteries exploding and the new PlayStation console choking away, many investors decided to pull out. At that time, Sony's share price dropped 2.75%

Now, since the release of the PlayStation 3 console late last year, how many machines have been over heating? The good news seems to be that nobody has reported their machines over heating. It may have been just a fluke. In view of the variety of reasons why the consoles were getting over heated at the Tokyo Game Show, none of which seems to be down to the machines themselves, and all lack of consumer confidence and bad press blew it way out of proportion.

It has been experienced by many gamers that after prolonged gaming, sometimes 48 hours straight (more or less), playing various games on the PlayStation 3, there was no trouble to report. The fans continued to run quietly, there was warm air coming out of the back, it got hot as all consoles do, but not too hot, and no overheating trouble was noticed. The only problems were bleary eyes, backs and thumbs, and delirium due to a complete lack of sleep and video game overdose.

Finally, if you don't believe the lack of PlayStation 3 overheating problems, check out the gaming forums, you won't hear anything about PS3 on these issues.
